CCISP -The Portuguese Polytechnics Coordinating Council
Who are we
Created in 1979, the Conselho Coordenador dos Institutos Superiores Politécnicos (CCISP – Portuguese Polytechnics Coordinating Council) is the body of joint coordination and representation of public polytechnic higher education institutions. It comprises all public polytechnics (15 in total) and all public non integrated schools (5 in total).
Since in Portugal universities can also comprise polytechnic units, some of the public universities that have polytechnic programs are also part of CCISP, these being the Universities of Azores, Algarve, Aveiro and Madeira.
It is CCISP’s mission, in addition to the co-representation of polytechnic higher education institutions to collaborate in the creation of national education, science and culture policies, and to issue opinion on all issues having to do with the public polytechnic higher education system, not only in terms of legislation, but also in terms of budget.
Furthermore, the Council also aims to contribute to the development of education, research and culture in general and to the recognition of polytechnic higher education institutions and their agents, as well as the reinforcement of partnerships with foreign entities. This is why CCISP is a member of the European Association of Institutions in Higher Education (EURASHE).
Why we are Participating in the Project
Since CCISP is the body of joint coordination and representation of public polytechnic higher education institutions, part of its mission is to develop some studies and statistics about the Portuguese higher education system. Therefore, Quality Assurance is a highly important matter that should be taken into account by HEIs, being adopted by CCISP members since mid 2000. So, participating is this project will give us more awareness in HE Quality Assurance.
Our Role in the Project
CCISP is one of the designated partners that will develop the intellectual outputs of the project. We will also organize a national focus group with QA HEIs leaders and the 2nd Project Consortium meeting, in which the consortium will present the first results of the institutional surveys, national focus groups, and other outputs as well. As a partner, CCISP has also the task of contributing to the success of all work package and to disseminate the conclusions of the project among our members and stakeholders.
