Institute of Tourism Studies

Who are we

The Institute of Tourism Studies is a vocational higher education Institution aimed at meeting the needs of the Tourism and hospitality Industry. The Institute provides programmes from foundation level up to degree and Masters levels. Since it is a Vocational Institute it also provides work placement for learners which are an integral part of the programmes. The Institute is a Bologna signatory and also is a member of the Erasmus Charter for mobility both of students, staff and Lecturers.

The Institute of Tourism studies abides by the European standard guidelines 2015 for Quality assurance. It also has an Internal Quality assurance office headed by Mr.Gino Schiavone.

Why we are Participating in the Project

The Institute of Tourism studies is firmly committed to provide an educational structure at guaranteeing excellent standards of service within the Tourism and Hospitality Industry. In order to do this the Institute needs strong management who support Quality Assurance. Therefore such a project is important to ensure and enhance that the Management is continuously developed through professional development. Such a project will give such a result.

Our Role in the Project

Our role is to contribute in co-ordinating this project and all its outputs to make sure it will be a success. We contribute in all areas with more direct contribution on Output 3 for Online Training Pre course for IQA for Institutional Leaders.

Gino Schiavone

Head of Quality Assurance

Currently the Head of Quality Assurance at the Institute of Tourism studies (ITS Malta) and an ECVET National expert (Malta)t. He is qualified in Tertiary Education Management with a specialization in Quality assurance at EQF Level 7 from the University of Melbourne Australia. Gino Schiavone also developed the first accredited EQF Level 7 Internal Quality assurance course with 34 ECTS to be delivered online. His recent paper is entitled Internationalization and Quality Assurance: A European framework perspective.

Personal Assistant within the office of the CEO

Sharon Farrugia is currently the Personal Assistant for the CEO at the Institute of Tourism Studies in Malta (ITS Malta) where she has been working at ITS for the past three years. She has bachelor’s degree with Honours at Business Enterprise and is currently on her way to achieve and a Master of Business Administration in International Hospitality Management.
